Battery Backup Explained. It is not logical to specify a battery backup system by defining the number of pump cycles per hour for a 24 hour period. It’s a completely unscientific approach. A pump cycle, depending on the model of pump, chamber size, fluid head of the discharge pipe, bore diameter, will all have an effect on the actual volume of water pumped per cycle. To choose a product ,that is fit for purpose, the designer must evaluate the actual volume of water to be pumped on back up power before someone can re install the mains power loss. In the event of no water it may be a better solution (in disregard to BS8102:2022) to install a pump controller that measures and reports the actual number of pump cycles. Knowing this information will enable a system designer to decide if a battery back up is relevant or not.

We supply a range of pump controllers and pump cycle counters
